Driver CPC
Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is a European Union wide training directive being introduced “to maintain high driving standards and improve road safety”.
For bus and coach drivers Driver CPC started on 10th September 2008, for lorry drivers Driver CPC starts on 10th September 2009.
New drivers from the above dates will need to pass the Driver CPC in addition to the theory and practical tests if they wish to drive professionally.
Current holders of a PCV or LGV licence prior to the start dates will be able to continue driving professionally on the basis of acquired rights, they will then have to undertake 35 hours of periodic training, which must be completed within a 5 year period from the start date in order to renew their Driver CPC.
Driver CPC will impact on almost 800,000 professional drivers 5,600,000 periodic training hours will be required annually for LGV drivers alone RTITB estimates that more than 1,000 trainers will be required in addition to those training for licence acquisition
